The good week with new things

March 10, 2015.  Today was a doctor's appointment so I had them each do a lesson in Reading Eggs.  I also had them cut out circles, c, and l (lines).  This was to help them with handwriting.  It was to help strengthen their hand muscles.  This weekend I am going to have them help me make our first ever bread.

March 11, 2015.  First up AAR.  E did AAR with minimum complaint.  He also did it well.  W did AAR after E and also did well.  W still has some problems with blends not sure if it is speech related or age related.  Will look that up later.  Next up AAS.  E went first.  E almost has i and y mastered.  Still working on o and u.  W almost has i mastered.  Still working on y, o, and u.  Last we went for math.  Today was first working on Geo boards.  Also for warm up E was able to say all the months of the year except December and counting to 100 by 5's.  W can go a little higher with the counting but needs more work on the months of the year.  Both enjoyed the geo boards.  We worked more with 9's.  W did a worksheet with 2 digits plus 9.  We worked on it together with no manipulatives, by the last few equations he was able to do himself without my guidance.  E did not want to write.  It is obvious by the way he wrote the numbers but he did it.  We worked without manipulatives.  About 1/3 of the way through I started to write what he said and about 1/2 the way done he was able to say the saying on his own and tell me the answer.  An Example of what both kids did was:  54+9=  so we said that 2 digits + 9 = the first digit goes up and the second digit goes down.  so 5 becomes a 6 and 4 becomes a 3 an the answer is 63.  I wish I had known this when I was going to school.  Last on the list was Signing Time-chores.

March 12, 2015.  Today was a great day.  Started off with handwriting.  I decided that we would work on the numbers 1,2,3,4,and 7 to see if that helps them to remember how to write those numbers better.  Then we worked on Math.  Today was partitioning 11 and go to the dump with 11.  Last up was working on Fluency sheet side 1.  W completed his work.  E did half the worksheet and will pick up the rest tomorrow.

March 13, 2015.  Today was not a bad day.  Started off with Math.  Worked with Geoboards and congruent rectangles.  Worked on partitioning 11 and a practice sheet that we did on the white board.  Practice sheet was n+2.  Even/odd.  The next thing for the day was AAR fluency sheet.  W did the page for today and E did yesterdays work and today's work.  E was halfway done with todays work before he realized it because he was playing with W.  E decided that he would finish today's work instead of finishing it tomorrow.

I have learned that when doing the fluency sheets to let the kids 1) negotiate the amount that they do (within reason) and 2) let them run around and read the word.
