School is official and record keeping has started

So starting in April things went haywire and in May got worse.  School took a back-step because life lessons are hard to learn.  Now we are back.  Staring late June/early July we started doing a bit of school although I did not keep any records.  We are now July 18, 2017.  School is official and record keeping has started.

July 18th.  W-we started spelling not to long ago.  We are on Step 2 while continuing step 1.  W has 2 sounds to master is Step 1 (o and u).  O will be mastered soon.  We are almost finished with step 2.  Next is FLL.  We did lesson 25 reading and answering questions about Mongols.  W needs work on answering questions about passages.  Will probably assign that has homework this week.  Last subject today was RGHT.  We did the first 1/2 of lesson 23.  He did really well.  He is great at Mental addition.

E-We have been working on reading.  Today we started and finished lesson 44 in AAR level 1.  He did well and said it was fun.  We learned additional sounds for a, i, and c.  Next we went to FLL lesson 25, reading answering questions about Mongols.  E needs work on answering questions about passages.  Will probably assign that has homework this week.  Took a break and then finished up with RGHT.  We did the first 1/2 of lesson 23.  Looks like it is going to take some work to get him to do this without to much hassle.

July 19th.  W finished up step 2 in AAS (All About Spelling) and we went onto Step 3.  Next we did a small part of lesson 26 in FLL.  Last was RGHT.  We finished up lesson 23.  He chose to do the optional worksheet and did very well.

E started with FLL and we did a small part of lesson 26.  Next we moved onto RGHT lesson 23 to finish it up. He had some trouble with the worksheet.  I stopped and we did some problems using the big dry erase board.  He started to understand.......example......25+53=
25 breaks into 20+5 (2 tens + 5 ones) + 53 breaks into 50+3 (5 tens+3 ones).  Then we took the tens 20+50 (2 ten + 5 ten)=70 (7tens) and we took the ones 5 +3 (5 ones+3 ones)=7 (7ones).  Then we added 70+7=77 so 25+53=77. This seemed to help however he did start to over simplify when the answer would be something like 100 or 110 he would simplify 100 to 10 and 110 to 11.  Lastly after I got off of work we finished up with AAR lesson 43.  The rest of the o and g sounds.

July 20th.  W finished up step 3 in AAS.  We finished up lesson 26 in FLL and started lesson 24 in RGHT.  W is great in Math addition.

E started with RGHT lesson 24. We need to work on how many 10's are in a 10.  Also need to work on 2 digit addition with 2 digit addition.  Next was FLL finished up lesson 26.  Last was AAR lesson 46.  Doing good so far.

July 21st.  W started on step 4.  Along with alphabetizing he is able to pick out the correct letter for the correct sounds that are said.  He also mastered the o sounds.  Next was FLL started the first 1/2 of lesson 27.  Last was finishing up lesson 24 with practice sheets.  I think for now on we will use the practice worksheets to work on timing not mastery as he as mastered them.

E started with lesson 27 and we did the 1st half.  Next was AAR and again we did the 1st half of lesson 47.  Close to mastering the word for.  Last we finsihed up lesson 24. I had him do 2 practice sheets one dealing with 9's and the other one dealing with 8's.  He did okay once I showed him the pattern of if we know what 9+1 = and we no what 9+2= then we know what 9+3 =.  I also showed him that we can make 9 into a 10 but we need to make the next number lowered by 1.  We will continue to work on the worksheets.

everything haywire

May 1st.  Today we finished up lesson 21 with games skip counting memory 8's and 9's.  W read the book "Big Dog...Little Dog" by P.D. Eastman.  I helped with words like sleep, all, and over.  W was able to discern what some words were by context.

May 3rd.  Today we started and finished up lesson 22 with math.  For reading E did more work on fluency sheet lesson 42 (started the phrases and sentences section).  W concentrated on reading the green cards and 2 yellow cards.  He mastered 2 of the green cards (

so I had started this while trying to keep everything together.  I failed.  Next blog.
