November 23, 2015. HWT, FLL, Math, ARR
W did half a page of HWT. P. 37 punctuation. He was out of sorts today so breaks happened pretty much after each subject. Next up was FLL lesson 55. Review of adverb and adjective. W was able to tell me a little bit about adverbs. We then went over the first paragraph of "The Storm" from the previous lesson and picked out the adverbs ending in ly and the adjectives. Will set it aside so we can pick it up again later. Last up for W was RGHTSTART Math game N40. We had to modify it a bit since we only had one stack of place value cards. He enjoyed the game and we played a few rounds. W also drew today.
E did p. 9 did another 1/2 of the page (so 1 more line and part of another line). E also played monopoly jr by himself today (some math involved) I supervised. Next up was FLL lesson 55. Review of adverb and adjective. E repeated the definitions of adjective and adverb and then recited to me what they were. We then went over the first
paragraph of "The Storm" from the previous lesson and picked out the
adverbs ending in ly and the adjectives. Will set it aside so we can
pick it up again later. E also played with shapes drawing and cutting them. It was what he wanted to do. E also drew today. Next for E was RGHTSTART Math game N40. We had to modify it a bit
since we only had one stack of place value cards. He enjoyed the game
and we played a couple of rounds. Last of all was AAR reading 1/2 page. p. 150. Evander does better reading a 1/2 page at night.
November 24, 2015. Today was one of those slow sluggish cold days. So in honor of that I had the kids chose what they wanted to do for school today. 1) complete lessons -HWT, FLL, ARR, Math, 2) 1 reading eggs and 1 mathseed lesson, or 3) write a sentence about something like a leaf or table. W complete an Reading Eggs lesson. He was going to also do Mathseeds however it was not working. I decided to have E do his work later that night. E did his 1/2 page reading p. 150. He is almost done with the story. Hurrah! Also thought I should mention that after he reads I reread to him what he just read. That way it helps some with comprehension as his fluency is still low. He also chose to describe something. He described his cup. He wrote most of the sentence and I spelled all of the words. He wrote: The cup is red, has colorful dots, and has my...this is when he stopped and I took over the writing and finished it with name 2x on it. Then we went over the fact that sentence start with a capital and we found the noun, verbs, and adjectives.
Although I had planned to do school on the 25, 26, and 27th no school was accomplished as there friend was out of public school and she came over early. That being said on Friday November 27th some unschooling happend. W played around with S (the friend) on skip counting. They colored in the numbers and worked with numbers 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. E did not want to join in instead he did what he calls animal research. This animal research lasted 3 days. We looked up different types of wolfs, coyotes, dogs, cats, pretty much wild animals. He wrote the names down for example: Wolfs--gray, black, ect. and so on.
To let Friends, Family, and others know how our homeschooling is going. To keep everyone updated as to the programs we use, how we like them, and the progress that the kids are making.

Flexibility is Key
November 16, 2015. RGHT, AAR, FLL, and HWT. Today W did HWT pgs. 32-33 working with the letter i and sentences that had the letter i in them. Next we moved onto Rereading The Bad Rat. After he read outloud The Bad Rat I asked a few basic questions like what did the rat do, was the rat bad, and tell me about the story. W was able to answer all of the questions. He has requested the Word tic tac toe game. Will try to play that one tomorrow. His favorite story so far is Jam and his 2nd favorite is "Fox in a Box". I will have him reread "Fox in a Box" again this week. 3rd up was math. We did the next 1/3 of the lesson 87. Last up was FLL. The last half of lesson 57. We finished up reviewing the verbs and then I wrote a sentence and he picked out (with some help) the noun and verb. E started with HWT cursive. He did the line of warm up on page 7 then he finished up p.8 and did a line on page 9. page 9 is a and c. Next up was Math. We did the next 1/3 of the lesson 87. 3rd was FLL. The last half of lesson 57. We finished up reviewing the verbs and

Don't Push It Week
November 8, 2015. Today we went on a Field Trip to a members only event at Gulf Specimen. It was raining all day. The kids got to touch and feel some of the animals (sea stars, crabs, ect.). They got to look at others (sharks, huge turtles, ect.). One of the cool things that they were able to do was feed an animal of their choice a bit of fish. W chose the big fishes (parhannas) they swarmed on the little dead fish like there was no tomorrow. E chose to feed the shark tank. While there we learned that little lady (I think that was the name) (the big baby girl turtle) would be eventually released in the wild so they feed her crab but she had to go after the crab on her own. Had to hunt it. We also learned that turtle shells have nerve endings right under them. We saw the nursing sharks (3 of them being feed), they get feed once a week. If the little one thinks she isn't getting her fair share she squirts water at the person doing the feeding. My oldest E also got splashed by the sharks. They saw sting rays and all sorts of animals and even learned a little about red tide.
November 9, 2015. I am not feeling good today. Allergies extra bad. W managed to do HWT (finished up p. 27, then did pgs. 28 and 29). I talked to E today about Handwriting and we decided he is good with print so we will move onto cursive per his request.
W went back to read "Jam" in the Run, Bug, Run book (the very first story in the first book). He did real well. Fluency was very good and he was able to answer questions about the story. This is his favorite story because he says it is funny. E read p. 144-145.
Last was Math. W did lesson 85 and the game. The games was multiples memory. It is a good game for learning skip counting. He enjoyed it. E also did lesson 85 and the game. He enjoyed it as well. We played the game twice.
November 10, 2015. No school as I was under the whether.
November 11, 2015. We started taking the DORA assessment.
November 12, 2015. Today we have a lot to do and will see what gets accomplished. I think I made math just a little long based on the children's reactions. I started with W today. He did RightStart Math lesson 86 dealing with Quarters (1/4). He is getting the idea but we need to work on the language of 1/2, 1/4, whole. He loved the experiment with the water to visually see whole, 1/2, and 1/4. Next lesson was science from Mystery Science dealing with habitats of present and past. We started with mystery 1. He worked on a worksheet after listening to some of the video. He knew most of the answers only got one part wrong. Then it was break time. We finished the DORA assessment. Compared to his assessment of 5/14 he has improved a little. Need to step up the game and focus a little more time on a particular part of reading. He is currently at Mid-K level for most things. Next up was outloud reading and answering a few questions. W read The Fox in a Box from the Level 1 V 1 book. This is the 11th story in the book. He did okay with reading but will need to reread it for fluency. He was able to answer a few basic questions about this story after he read the story.
Next up was E. He started with science from Mystery Science Animals through Time Mystery 1: Habitats and Environmental changes. He worked on a worksheet after listening to some of the video. He knew most of the answers only got one part wrong. The same part that W got wrong. They both chose forest when the answer was grasslands for the now part not the then part. Next up was Rightstart math lesson 86. He gets it when seen visually with the water and if done separately like 1/2 then 1/4 but not if asked about all of it verbally with another number like 12. He loved the experiment with the water to visually see whole, 1/2, and 1/4. Will continue to work on 1/4 for both children. Break time. E worked some more on the DORA assessment. He was not happy. Next E read another page of "The Runt Pig". He read p.146. I have a feeling we will need to do the same with him that I will be doing with W. Not looking forward to it as he is the one that throws the most fits when it comes to reading but it will need to be done.
November 13, 2015. Today was a great day. W finished up the slides from Mystery Science. W also did 1/2 lesson 87. Today was working with money and quarters (1/4). Next up was FLL lesson 52. We did 1/2 a lesson as the lesson was a bit longer than normal. Working more on verbs. HWT pgs.30-31 letter u and u words. He wrote the word dust very well. Still needs practice on little u as it almost looks like a little a. Today I had W reread "The Tan Hat" 2nd story in L1V1 book. He did well. He did need to sound out some words but that is why we are rereading previous stories to help out with fluency and comprehension. He was able to answer some basic questions about the story.
E's turn. Today E decided that he would do more work on the DORA assessment. He did well attitude wise no fussing involved. I would have let him go on but we had some computer problems today and I didn't want that to negatively affect his score. Next up he chose Math. We did 1/2 lesson 87. Today was working with money and quarters (1/4). After math while he was playing with the money I moved onto FLL lesson 52. We did 1/2 a lesson as the lesson was a bit longer than normal. Working more on verbs. HWT-today was the first lesson on cursive. P. 7 is a cursive Warm-up and they want you to do 1 line a day. He did 1 line and then he chose to move onto p.8. He did all but the last line. p. 8 is cursive c. Last was reading. He read 1/2 a page knowing that tomorrow he will read the other 1/2. Though I must say the 1/2 that he read he read really really well.
Done in record time today.
November 14, 2015. Today E read the other half of p. 147. He read well again. He sounded out a few words but he read well and with no attitude.
November 9, 2015. I am not feeling good today. Allergies extra bad. W managed to do HWT (finished up p. 27, then did pgs. 28 and 29). I talked to E today about Handwriting and we decided he is good with print so we will move onto cursive per his request.

starting off good
October 26, 2015. AAR, FLL, RGHT Math, Handwriting/self esteem, and dictation.
W started of with reading 2 pages in AAR (pgs. 144-145). Then we moved on math lesson 82 even/odd rules. Finished the whole lesson. W needs a tad bit more work on even/odd rules but generally understands the concept. Break. 3rd up was handwriting. I titled a page the good things I do. Then W told me 5 good things he did. I wrote them down and he copied them. They were: Playing, Friendship, Walking dog, Caring, and Helper. 4th item up was dictation. W dictated to me somethings that he did at Optimist Park yesterday. He had to speak in complete sentences. I will rewrite and we will use this to review nouns, punctuation, things that we have learned in FLL. Finally the last thing up was FLL Adverbs (no dictation).
E started with Math lesson 82. Finished it up. Understood the even/odd rules very well. Next up was reading in AAR. Started a new story "The Runt Pig" read 1 pg. (pg. 136). October 29, 2015. Daddy was home sick no formal school. Kids decided on their own to write on sticky notes different words that they sounded out. I helped with spelling a few words like daddy, puppy, house....they spelled words like pup, dog on their own.
October 30, 2015. RGHT math, AAR, FLL.
W did RGHT math lesson 83 second 1/3. AAR pg. 147. FLL lesson 49 + addressed a "postcard". E did RGHT math lesson 83 second 1/3. AAR pg.138. FLL lesson 49+addressed a "postcard". E also did "dinosaur research". We looked up different types of raptors, rexes and prehistoric animals. He then figured out what the beginning sound was and wrote it on his board. He filled up 2 boards (1 big and 1 small). To most people this would not seem like a lot but for my son this was an amazing accomplishment. He wrote alot.
