What a 2 weeks

Feb. 7, 2016.  To try to keep E on track I had him do a 2 page reading today.  He read pages37-38.

Feb. 8, 2016.   RGHTSTRT, AAR, Science
Today we did 3 subjects.  W did worksheet 38-2.  If he starts with the ones he gets it; if not he still gets it but needs a slight reminder about where to carry.  E did worksheet 38-2 and his doing fantastic.  Next up was Mystery Science for E and W.  They did it separately.  We finished mystery 2 on dinosuars.  Last up was AAR.  W read one page page 61.  E read 1 page page 39.  Today was not to bad but would have like to cover one more subject.

Feb. 9, 2016.  Husband was home sick today so no school was done.

Feb. 10, 2016.  AAR, FLL, HWT, and RGHTSTART
W and E started with RGHTSTART.  Since they were doing good in lesson 90 I skipped worksheet 38-3 and moved onto lesson 91.  I had them do a total of  4 problems from worksheet 39-1 (1), 39-2 (1), and 39-3 (2).  They did well.  We did the problems on a white board.
W and E next did FLL lesson 62.  I changed dictation to copy for W and he wrote the sentence on a whiteboard.  For E I dictated the sentence The Bat Sat; he felt the copy work was to much so we did a short sentence dictation style on a white board.
W did pages 50-51 letter r and r words in HWT.  His a's are getting better.  Writing has improved. E continued to work on pages 12-13.  He finished up page 12 and did 4 units on page 13.
W read 3 pages of "The Pet Duck" pages 62-64.  E finished up reading "The Nap".

Feb. 11, 2016.
I had both E and W do worksheet 40.  This is where you put the numbers into columns and add.  The numbers varied from 4 digits to 2 digits in a problem.  There were 6 problems.  I did not realize that they would have problems with this but when it came to things like 2883+56 it took a little while.  They started to get it.  We decided that 3 problems was enough for the day.  W finished setting up the other 3 problems so next time he just needs to solve.  E decided he wants to set up and solve on the same day.  Next up was HWT.  E did 4 more units on page 13.  W did page 52 and 1/3 of page 53.

Feb. 12-22nd, 2016.  Sorry for not keeping up.  Have had a busy week and no internet for some days.  Here is what we did for school.  We first finished up lesson 91 with the chain game.  It is a solitary game with addition. Then in math we went to lesson 92.  We did opposites and I moved onto symbols <>=, we did some practice.  I then one day had E go on and start an assessment on a new math online program called Math Whizz.  I am hoping it will help him with place value and which place to look at when determining what is greater ect.  That day I had W do a lesson on Math Seeds.  Today we worked on comparing 2 quantities for <,>,= and reading the symbols.  We also started working on worksheet 42.
W finished reading "The Pet Duck".  I had him skip a reading day.  Today he read a little on his tablet (real world reading) and I had him reread "Hit the Gas" from the first set up AAR 1 books.  E started reading "At Camp".  As of today he has read from 44-50.
W during this week time frame finished p. 53, 54, 55-58 in his HWT book.  E during this time finished up page 13, did the h's on page 14 and 15 and 3 words on page 14 in his cursive HWT book.
This week for FLL we completed the following lessons 63 (instead of dictation I ad them circle the preposition in the sentence),64 skipped dictation, 65, 66, and 67 (we skipped dictation).

See What a Day Can Make

Feb. 1, 2016.  Today was doctor's check up visit day for W.  Check up went well.  He talked with the doctor.  Today for school we briefly started learning to ride the bike.  Might have to get Daddy to help as it hurts my back and wrists.  E is progressing well with the bike ride.  W needs work on balance.  Also we played math bingo for school today.  They had to add single digit numbers together (they added to no more than 10) and we played several rounds.  Love Leap Frog Bingo.

Feb. 2, 2016.  Math,  HWT,  AAR,  FLL, and shoe tying.
W started with HWT.  He completed p. 47 writing sentences on single, triple, and double lines.  He did the best with triple and double lines and is getting better with single lines.  Need to work on lowercase a and g.  He is 1/2 done with the My Printing Book with Handwriting Without Tears.  2nd up was math.  Instead of doing lesson 89 in RightStart Math Level B (reviewing place value) I decided we are going to skip that lesson and do reviewing place value on the computer.  I had W go to: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/placevalue/fruit_shoot_place_value.htm and place the easy level (numbers 1-19) untimed (10 questions) (he did great and it built his confidence), then he went onto the medium level (numbers 1-99) untimed (10 questions) again he got them all right.  Last I had him go back to the easy level and do the timed (answer as many as you can).  He was able to get a total of 11 with none wrong. BREAK TIME.  3rd subject was FLL lesson 60.  It is picture naration on "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".  He was able to answer all questions and started answering in complete sentences.  5 min. BREAK.  4th subject was shoe tying.  He started back with the old fashion way.  He is almost there.  He is able to get one loop when tied.  Just a little more practice and he will have it down pat.  BREAK TIME.  The 5th and final subject was AAR.  He started on a new lesson and story.  The story was "At Camp".  He read 4 pages, pages 44-47.  Very proud.
E started with HWT.  He did a little more work on page 11 a,d,c and connecting them together.  Hassle at first but I got him to work.  2nd up was AAR.  He started on a new story today called "The Nap".  He read the 1st page page 31. BREAK TIME.  3rd up was tying boots.  He started back with the old fashion way.  He is almost there.  He is able to get one loop when tied.  I showed him how to do it again with the already formed loop to fix the problem.  He got it.  Just a little more practice and he will have it down pat.  4th up was math.  Instead of doing lesson 89 in RightStart Math Level B (reviewing place value) I decided we are going to skip that lesson and do reviewing place value on the computer.  I had E go to: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/placevalue/fruit_shoot_place_value.htm and place the easy level (numbers 1-19) untimed (10 questions) (he did great) he didn't get any wrong, then I had him do to the easy level and do the timed (answer as many as you can).  He freaked out.  So I lied and said he did not have to do timed. I got him out and put him right back in without him realizing he was timed.  He did good.  He was able to get a total of 6 within the time frame with none wrong.  The 5th and final subject was FLL lesson 60.  It is picture naration on "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".  He was answered all questions.  We need to work on d answering in complete sentences.  I model how to do that after he answered.

About the http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/placevalue/fruit_shoot_place_value.htm  game:  It shows so many blocks and you find the fruit that represents those blocks and click on the fruit.

Feb. 3, 2016.  AAR, RGHTSTRT
W started with AAR.  He did good with reading.  He is now up to reading 4 pages at a time.  He struggled a little today with some words but with others he read with no hesitation.  He read pages 50-53.  Almost done with "At Camp". BREAK.  Next we started on lesson 90 4 digit adding on the abacus.  W did a very good job adding the 4 digits without the abacus.  He understands the concept.  He just got one part wrong the thousands spot.  He started by adding the tens and ones spots and then the hundreds spot and then the thousands spot so:  4817+2639 he did (17+39) 800+600 and then (4000+2000).  We then did it on the abacus with ones spot first, traded, tens spot next, hundreds spot, traded and then the thousands spot.  He saw what he should have done in the thousand spot.  As his answer was 61456 not 7456.
E started with AAR. He read 2 pages in "The Nap" pages 32-33.  Next up is Math.  We started lesson 90 4 digit adding on the abacus.  Still trying to get through to him.  He wants to add it all together not just the individual place values.  Not sure if it is his OCD or not but I will get through to him.

Feb. 4, 2016.  AAR, RGHTSTRT, FLL, HWT
W did school in the afternoon.  W started with HWT.  He did pages 48-49.  He did 1/3 of page 49.  Next he did the next part of lesson 90 in Math.  The book says lesson 90 is a 5 day lesson so we are on day 2.  W is doing great, understands the concepts and can add them using paper without the abacus.  Next up was reading.  W finished reading the last 4 pages of "At Camp".  BREAK.  Last was FLL lesson 61 prepositions.  We continued to work on the definition and added more prepositions to our list.  With the first 4 prepositions he was able to make sentences.  The last 6 he needed help.  E will do his work tonight.
E did school starting early evening.  He read the next 2 pages (p.34-35).  Next up is HWT finishing up page 11.  After that we moved onto Math while he was eating dinner.  The book says lesson 90 is a 5 day lesson so we are on day 2.  E did better today we used the abacus and he was starting to get how to solve the 4 digit problems.  BREAK.  Last up was FLL lesson 61 prepositions.  We continued to work on the definition and added more prepositions to our list.  Next time he will do half of school in the afternoon and he can finish up the other half at night but doing everything at night is not going to work.

Feb. 5, 2016.  Today was the best homeschooling day ever.  It flowed like never before.  We took several breaks inbetween subjects and during subjects.  AAR, RGHTSTRT, HWT, Mystery Sceince
I started off each boy with a HWT assignment.  W finished page  49.  He wrote really well.  E worked on pages 12-13 (cursive g) he did 3 1/2 lines.  2nd up was RGHTSTRT lesson 90 continuation. Worksheet 38-1.  W got it no problems.  I helped with reminding where to carry.  E is starting to get it.  Not sure if he is just doing what the steps are or if he understands.  Even if it is just the steps right now that is a step in the right direction.  He did the whole page without the abacus.  3rd up was AAR.  W started on a new story "The Pet Duck" he read 2 pages this time.  Pages 59-60.  Last up was Mystery Science.  Mystery 2 in animals:  Structures & Adaptations, Fossil Evidence, Classification.  We did 1/2 of the lesson.  Both E and W did this but did it separately.

Feb. 6, 2016.  Hey I forgot to have E do his reading yesterday.  So today he read 1 page. page 36.

Busy Week

I'm not sure who all is actually following but we just had our evaluations done for the year.  I hope to incorporate some things and move my oldest a long a little more.  Although E is making progress.

1/25/16.  1st day of school since Evaluation.  Will cover Handwriting, Grammar, Learning to read, and math.
W started with math.  Today was the start of lesson 88 in Righstart 1st Edition level B.  I have broken it down into 1/3 parts.  We did the 1st 1/3 today.  Next up was Handwriting.  We did page 45 out of the yellow Handwriting without tears book.  We worked on the letter Jj.  When W takes his time he does good.  Next up was Learning to read.  We went over 20 green cards in the AAR level 1 not mastered pile.  He mastered the word clock out of those 20.  We then focused on 5 words and worked on those for a few minutes.  Break Time.  Last thing was grammer.  Did FLL level 2 lesson 58 and W did copy work instead of dictation.
E started with reading.  He read the next 2 pages in AAR level 1 story "Fun at the Pond"  pages 20-21.  Took a break.  Next up was FLL level 2 lesson 58.  E did dictation (the sentence My hands are in the air.).  One accomplishment is that he wrote the entire sentence.  I see some sizing issues and resistance in writing a lower case t for the so he wrote T for the.  Still a win for he wrote the whole thing and I did not.  Took a break.  Next up was the start of lesson 88 in Righstart 1st Edition level B.  I have broken it down into 1/3 parts.  We did the 1st 1/3 today.  He got a little bored and hard to keep on track.  Took a break.   Last thing was Handwriting cursive Orange book finished page 10.

1/26/16.  Today we will cover Handwriting-HWT, Grammar (FLL), Learning to Read-AAR, and Math(RGHTST).
W started with HWT.  He did p. 46 writing lower case words on double, triple, and single lines.  Single lines gave the most trouble.  Next up was FLL lesson 59 more about prepositions.  We used a plate, knife, fork, spoon, cup, and napkin to practice some of the prepositions and to learn a little bit about place settings.  Break Time. Next up was Math.  He covered in no time what it took for E.  Although E does get distracted easily.  I did not move ahead but will consider it.  Last was 20 AAR green cards.  Mastered 1 at.  Reviewed 10.
E started with math.  We continued to work on lesson 83.  I think we will need to set a timer and end once 20-30min is up next time.  We spent about 35-40 min.  He was bored and I was frustrated.  Next up was FLL lesson 59 more about prepositions.  We used a plate, knife, fork, spoon, cup, and napkin to practice some of the prepositions and to learn a little bit about place settings.  Break Time.   Next he worked on 1/2 of page 11. He did 1/2 of the 1/2 so 1/4 total. Then Break.  Later that night he did the other 1/4 so 1/2 of 1 page is now completed.  The first part needed a little work but I showed him a trick with connecting and writing the cursive a and d.  That night he did dad and add nicely, cad still needs work.  Last up was 2 page reading.  He read the next 2 pages (pgs. 22-23).

1/30/16.  E finished reading the last 4 pages of "Fun at the Pond".
