September 21, 2015. I did not feel well this morning so I had E finish up his Handwriting page 9. Tonight was home economics with Daddy. Both E and W learned how to cut up vegetables with sharp knives.
September 22, 2015. Today's lessons were AAR, FLL, Rightstart, and Handwriting. We started with Handwriting. I have discovered a little trick. Today for handwriting we did what I
call hand strengthening. My oldest complains when writing and sometimes
the youngest too. Today we played with rubber bands. Started with they
youngest since he was up. We stretched them and we twisted them. Then
for fun we took 2 rubber bands and tied them in a note. Oldest got up
and joined in the fun. It takes some dexterity to tie them but they did
well and enjoyed themselves. We also learned how to put a correct sized
and an oversized rubber band on a stack of index cards (something the
youngest wanted to learn so he can help put games up). I hope this helps
others who child(ren) need help either with dexterity or handwriting.
P.S. The way we tied them together will help them learn to tie their
shoes.
Next up was AAR for W. We played Tic Tac Toe with 9 of the green cards. If you read the card you get to place your token 3 in a row wins. We played several rounds. Then moved onto Math worksheet 29. Accomplished 5 problems. Need to find a better way to teach this particular concept. (56+36). Last up was FLL. Lesson 37 addressing an envelop. We talked about what goes on an envelop and where. Then I showed W how to do the return address. W then wrote most of the return address on an envelope. Need to work on sizing and put lines down.
E is up. E needed to read "Fish Class" today, required reading 2pgs. E read pgs. 103-104. Took forever. He did not want to do it and he kept getting off topic. Next up was FLL. Lesson 37 addressing an envelope. We talked about what goes on an envelop and where. Then I showed
E how
to do the return address. E then wrote most of the return address on
an envelope. He did really well with sizing and well with forming his letters. I count some of that has handwriting too. Last up was Math worksheet 29. Accomplished 3 problems. Need to find a better way to teach this particular concept. (56+36).
Thoughts on 56+36 maybe they need more work on place value not sure. I have found something on the internet that might help with the actually teaching so will try that first.
September 23, 2014. Today was the first day of our very first Co-op. We got lost and arrived 30 min late. We started with the Helen Keller project. The kids first learned a little about her life and the fact that she was deaf and blind and how she learned to communicate. Then they went to different stations where blindfolded they tried to sort money, tell time, write their name, hook hooks, and unlock locks. They also felt what braille was like, learned who made it up, and how it looked.
Then came lunch, play, and the next project. The next project they experimented with wood. They got to see what changed woods color-grass, flowers, dirt, paint. They also got to use stains (vinegar, wool, and hydroproxide) and tea stain. They said they had lots of fun. Co-ops are now the 2nd and 4th Wednesday's of the month. We hope to go back again.
September 24, 2015. Today W worked on AAR and HWT. We played tic tac toe with the green cards. There were 2 special words (was and no). W did well and really likes this game. These were played with the green cards from All About Reading. Next was HWT. We worked on Corner Captials on page 10. Letters H,K,L. I noticed that he like to retraces his lines.
Today E worked on Math and AAR. We focused on place value today. I think in the long run it will help with adding 2 digits where you end up having to carry (37+46). We worked on the white board today. At first he was not getting it so we went to basics. Tens and ones. How many tens are in the number 1, how many ones are in the number 1. We did this with numbers 1-9. Then we did it with number 10. Then we moved to numbers 37 and 46 and then we did the really hard number 99. Next up was AAR reading "Fish Class". E read 1 page (pg. 105)
September 25, 2015. Today was finish up day. W did AAR, RGTST (RighStart), and FLL. We played tic tac toe with 5 special words and the rest words that could be sounded out. Did well needed review of for. Next up was working on place value like what I did with E yesterday. After a little bit W got the hang of it. Last was FLL lesson 38, copy work and quotations. We learned about quotations, did copy work on white board that included quotation marks, and reviewed helping verbs.
Next up was E who did AAR, HWT, and FLL. We worked on HWT p.10 letter H,K,L (Corner Capitals). Did really well. Next FLL lesson 38. Same thing has W except copy work was not the sentence out of the book it was "Hi there" instead. Last was AAR. He wonted to only read 1 page I talked him into 2 pages. He read pages 106-107.
September 26 and 27, 2015. E finished reading the book "Fish Class".
To let Friends, Family, and others know how our homeschooling is going. To keep everyone updated as to the programs we use, how we like them, and the progress that the kids are making.

3rd Week and all is still going well
September 14, 2015. Today was All About Reading, FLL, and Rightstart Math. Started with W today. We first reviewed the months of the year for FLL. W knew 6 months out of the year (Jan-April, Nov-Dec.). We then went over the 6 months not known and then all 12 months. We touched on how many days were in each month. Next up was AAR. W is on to the next story "Fish Class". Required reading is 2 pages he read 3 (p. 103-105).
Next up was E. W started with FLL and reviewed the months of the year. E knew all but 2 (May and June). We reviewed May and June and then all 12 months. We touched on how many days were in each month. Next up was AAR. E did the required 2 pages (p.93-94). It might not seem alot to most people but I can tell he is doing better and the majority of the arguments over reading have stopped. :) .
Last I put both boys together for RightStart Math lesson 75. This was a struggle and when it came time to do the worksheet W didn't want to. After much hassle I decided that it could be done tomorrow. E was okay with doing some of the worksheet (he did 4 problems). Both boys know that they will be doing the worksheet on the weekend if it is not done by then.
September 15, 2015. Today was AAR, Math lesson 76, Math worksheet, and StoryTime. I usually start with W because he wants to be done with school by a certain time so W is up. He picked Math worksheet and did (8 problems). W seems to be getting the concept when saying the steps out loud. I sometimes interject with a question and he corrects himself. He needs more work with place values. I then read Dinosaur Dinners by Lee Davis for Story Time. Break time. After break W read 2 pages (p106-107) from Fish Class. We also just did warm up exercises for W. W did well with answering the questions had no problems.
Next up E. E chose to first do Story-time: I read Dinosaur Dinners by Lee Davis. Next up was worksheet 28. E did another 4 equations with some guidance. Need to work on teen numbers (saying and writing). Break time then AAR was up. He did the required 2 pages although he did almost do more but at the last minute changed his mind. Read pages 95-96 in The Hit. Last was Math Lesson 76. We only did the warm up exercises as it took awhile. However E without knowing it was starting to hit on some of the concepts that was going to be taught in this lesson. Warm up was give facts of 10: 9 and what is 10. He said 9+1=10 and then so on (10+0, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5+5) he wanted to continue to find what else equaled 10 (he wanted 4 more answers as we were using the abacus without repeating any answers so he would not accept 3+7 since we had done 7+3. This is what he came up with. 4+4+2=10, 3+2+5=10, 1+2+7=10, 3+3+4=10. I was impressed because we have not learned this part yet and he is right those do equal 10.
September 16, 2015. Today was game day. Today I introduced the game Stratego in order to help the kids with their thinking skills. They also played Jenga for thinking and manual dexterity.
September 17, 2015. Today lessons are: AAR, Handwriting, Math worksheet, RighStart, FLL.
W started with Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) finishing up p. 9. This was the Mystery letter Frog Jump Capitals game. This is the order that I called out the letters: R,E,M,F,B,D,N,P,E,F,D,P,B,R,N,M,B,N,M,R. This was done with hassle. Next up was reading. We negotiated to 1 pg today and the remainder due tomorrow. W read p. 108 (Fish Class). 1st Break Time. Next up was the math worksheet that was not completed earlier, W finished the worksheet today and has a pretty good concept of how to add 2 digits with 2 digits when one set has a 0 (10). He almost had the raise a number to equal 10 lower the other one the same amount. (example: (42+80) so you add the 4 and the 8 the 8 goes to 10 the 4 goes to 2 so the answer is 12 then you say 2+0=2 total answer is: 122). Then we reviewed Adjectives with FLL. 2nd Break Time. We continued to work on Lesson 76. We moved onto the activities. Which was can you do 42+23 as 42+20+3. W needs some more work but is getting it. We both got confused with the harder ones like 36+36.
E started with Math worksheet. He did 4 more equations and has 4 left. I needed to remind him how to start the problem but after that he was good to go. He did use manipulatives (abacus and fingers). E needs to double check his counting as he sometimes is 1 off. We talked about the different methods to find numbers. Next up was reading. Required reading 2pgs. He read 3pgs (p. 97-99) to finish it up. 1st Break Time. After Break time we did HWT p.8-9. We did not finish p.9 which was the mystery game. Next up we reviewed adjectives from FLL. 2nd Break Time. Last up was Math lesson 76. We moved onto the activities. Which was can you do 42+23 as 42+20+3. E seemed to get that concept pretty well (he could recognize that both would equal the same answer) however he could not necessarily break up the first into the second one. Will continue to work on. Since W and I did not like the harder question I did not do them with E.
September 18, 2015. Husband stayed home from work because he was not feeling well so the only school done today was E finished up the math worksheet.
Next up was E. W started with FLL and reviewed the months of the year. E knew all but 2 (May and June). We reviewed May and June and then all 12 months. 2nd week going good
September 7, 2015. Today was game day. For game today we made up a reading game. I took 50 simple words (2-3 letters) and E and W and I made up a game. I will not go into details yet because I am hoping to flush out the system and then sell it for a few dollars. I will say that the kids (especially E) enjoyed the game and loved reading the cards.
September 8, 2015. Today we worked on Math, All About Reading, Story Time, and Handwriting.
W was up first. We started with Handwriting Without Tears: My Printing Book. I had him pick a pencil and a pencil grip. We then went over the instructions and he completed page 7, we went over page 8, and he completed 1/2 of page 9. W really likes the new Handwriting so far. For StoryTime I read Old Hat, New Hat. Next up W chose Math. Today we started lesson 75 in RightStart Level B 1st edition. Was not a good start. We might need to review tens. I'm not sure why he seemed to have trouble today but even when playing simple games he seemed off his game. Last up was AAR. Today was the beginning of reading "The Hit" in the volume 2. The required reading is 2 pages a day for school until the story is completed. W chose to read p.89-93 (5 pages). He wanted to read the whole story however I felt that he was getting tired and not looking at the words and needed to break.
E was up next. We started with StoryTime: I read Old Hat, New Hat. Then we moved onto Handwriting Without Tears: Printing Power. I had him pick a pencil and a pencil grip. We then went over the instructions and he completed page 7. One real page was just the right amount for E and I think the grip might have helped we will see. E seemed to like the new Handwriting so far. Next up was Math. Today we started lesson 75 in RightStart Level B 1st edition. E seemed to get it okay. We might still need some review though. We did half a lesson today. Last up was AAR. Today was the beginning of reading "The Hit" in the volume 2. The required reading is 2 pages a day for school until the story is completed. E did okay and chose to read only the 2 pages required. E read p.89-90.
September 10, 2015. Today was FLL, Story Time, and AAR. We did not do math today because E had a doctor's appointment.
Started with W. We reviewed pronouns. When asked if table was a pronoun W said no, when asked if it was a pronoun W said yes. We then moved onto reviewing nouns, linking verbs, and contractions. W was able to recognize a contraction. After FLL we moved onto Story Time. I read We Love Fall. Next up was reading (required reading is 2 pgs). W finished up the story "The Hit". He read p. 94-99. W did well today with reading. It seemed like he was recognizing (reading) some of the words faster than before (mastery/fluency).
Next up E. We started with Story Time: We Love Fall. Then we reviewed pronouns. When asked if table was a pronoun E said no, when asked if it was a pronoun W said yes. We then moved onto reviewing nouns, linking verbs, and contractions. E had no problems distinguishing between a contraction and not a contraction. Last was reading (required reading 2 pgs.). E read p.91-92.

First Week Went Well 2015-2016
September 1, 2015 was the FIRST day of school. We started the first day light and easy. The topics today were: Reading, Handwriting, and Story Time. I let the kids practice Handwriting during Story Time and Reading.
I started with E today. Handwriting consisted of playing with modeling clay. E stretched, rolled, and smashed the clay while I read Daniel in the Lions' Den (for Story Time) and we went over the following green cards for Reading: on, ten, fix, fox, quit, as, an six, up, and cash. E mastered fox. 2 new special words introduced today were: for and no. E figured both of these out on his own.
Next I moved onto W. Handwriting consisted of playing with modeling clay. W stretched, rolled, and pushed the clay while I read Daniel in the Lions' Den (for Story Time) and we went over the following green cards for Reading: leg, then, than, ten, this, them, with, red, that, math. W did not master any of the words today. 2 new special words introduced today were: for and no. W figured out no but had some trouble with for. W will probably master no tomorrow.
We E and W reviewed each of their green cards (the ones not mastered) a few times during the session. Tomorrow's topics are: Reading, Story Time, and Math.
September 2, 2015 was the SECOND day of school. Today started with reading of the fluency sheet (1/3), then story time, and finally math game addition review.
I started with E today. We started with the fluency sheet lesson 29 new words and mixed review section. Today started the day of hassle with reading. We finally came to a compromise. I found as many of the words on the green cards as I could and he read those, then the ones that I could not find I gave him a word that rhymed with the word on the page and he said the word on the page (I would say something like this word rhymes with bent he would then look at the word and say tent). I read Dooley Makes Friends by Kate Watkins while E looked at some dinosaurs. Last thing today was math review of addition with manipulatives. We each rolled 2 six sided dice (that had dots not numbers) and then used the manipulatives to figure out what the total was. Example (E would roll a 6 and 4 he would take either colored tiles or Popsicle sticks and put 6 under the 6 and 4 under the 4 then he would take either 10 colored tiles or Popsicle sticks and put them together and say the total 10). Finally we would see who had the highest score and that person would win. We played several rounds.
Next up was W. We started with the fluency sheet lesson 29 new words and mixed review section. W is more confident in his reading but needs to work on blends and paying closer attention to the letters. I read Dooley Makes Friends by Kate Watkins while W played with clay. Last thing today was math review of addition with manipulatives. We each rolled 2 six sided dice (that had dots not numbers) and then used the manipulatives to figure out what the total was. Sames rules as described above with E. Finally we would see who had the highest score and that person would win. We played several rounds.
September 3, 2015. No school
September 4, 2015. Today was Reading, Story Time, First Language Lessons, and Math. I started with W today.
W read 1/2 of the phrases and sentences section on the fluency sheet lesson 29. We then reviewed verbs (definition and examples) and pronouns (definition an examples). Next I read Amazing Animals Cheetahs by Kate Riggs. Then finally moved onto math review worksheet on greater than/less than. W knows which number is greater than or less than verbally. Once he was reminded that the mouth opens up to the bigger number then he was able to complete the worksheet by pasting the symbol the proper way.
Next up was E. We reviewed verbs (definition and examples) and pronouns (definition an examples). Next I read Amazing Animals Cheetahs by Kate Riggs. We then moved onto math review worksheet on greater than/less than. E knows which number is greater than or less than verbally. Once he was reminded that the mouth opens up to the bigger number then he was able to complete the worksheet by pasting the symbol the proper way. Last E read 1/2 of the phrases and sentences section on the fluency sheet lesson 29. He did quite well once the fits stopped.
September 5, 2015. Today again I started with W. W read the rest of the phrases and sentences section on the fluency sheet lesson 29 and we did finger exercises to cover handwriting.
Next up was E. E read the rest of the phrases and sentences section on the fluency sheet lesson 29 and we did finger exercises to cover handwriting. He seemed to tire though towards the end. Over all I'm glad about having both children now do all of the fluency sheets instead of some of it.
Lesson 29 in All About Reading Finished.
