September 14, 2015. Today was All About Reading, FLL, and Rightstart Math. Started with W today. We first reviewed the months of the year for FLL. W knew 6 months out of the year (Jan-April, Nov-Dec.). We then went over the 6 months not known and then all 12 months. We touched on how many days were in each month. Next up was AAR. W is on to the next story "Fish Class". Required reading is 2 pages he read 3 (p. 103-105).
Next up was E. W started with FLL and reviewed the months of the year. E knew all but 2 (May and June). We reviewed May and June and then all 12 months. We touched on how many days were in each month. Next up was AAR. E did the required 2 pages (p.93-94). It might not seem alot to most people but I can tell he is doing better and the majority of the arguments over reading have stopped. :) .
Last I put both boys together for RightStart Math lesson 75. This was a struggle and when it came time to do the worksheet W didn't want to. After much hassle I decided that it could be done tomorrow. E was okay with doing some of the worksheet (he did 4 problems). Both boys know that they will be doing the worksheet on the weekend if it is not done by then.
September 15, 2015. Today was AAR, Math lesson 76, Math worksheet, and StoryTime. I usually start with W because he wants to be done with school by a certain time so W is up. He picked Math worksheet and did (8 problems). W seems to be getting the concept when saying the steps out loud. I sometimes interject with a question and he corrects himself. He needs more work with place values. I then read Dinosaur Dinners by Lee Davis for Story Time. Break time. After break W read 2 pages (p106-107) from Fish Class. We also just did warm up exercises for W. W did well with answering the questions had no problems.
Next up E. E chose to first do Story-time: I read Dinosaur Dinners by Lee Davis. Next up was worksheet 28. E did another 4 equations with some guidance. Need to work on teen numbers (saying and writing). Break time then AAR was up. He did the required 2 pages although he did almost do more but at the last minute changed his mind. Read pages 95-96 in The Hit. Last was Math Lesson 76. We only did the warm up exercises as it took awhile. However E without knowing it was starting to hit on some of the concepts that was going to be taught in this lesson. Warm up was give facts of 10: 9 and what is 10. He said 9+1=10 and then so on (10+0, 8+2, 7+3, 6+4, 5+5) he wanted to continue to find what else equaled 10 (he wanted 4 more answers as we were using the abacus without repeating any answers so he would not accept 3+7 since we had done 7+3. This is what he came up with. 4+4+2=10, 3+2+5=10, 1+2+7=10, 3+3+4=10. I was impressed because we have not learned this part yet and he is right those do equal 10.
September 16, 2015. Today was game day. Today I introduced the game Stratego in order to help the kids with their thinking skills. They also played Jenga for thinking and manual dexterity.
September 17, 2015. Today lessons are: AAR, Handwriting, Math worksheet, RighStart, FLL.
W started with Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) finishing up p. 9. This was the Mystery letter Frog Jump Capitals game. This is the order that I called out the letters: R,E,M,F,B,D,N,P,E,F,D,P,B,R,N,M,B,N,M,R. This was done with hassle. Next up was reading. We negotiated to 1 pg today and the remainder due tomorrow. W read p. 108 (Fish Class). 1st Break Time. Next up was the math worksheet that was not completed earlier, W finished the worksheet today and has a pretty good concept of how to add 2 digits with 2 digits when one set has a 0 (10). He almost had the raise a number to equal 10 lower the other one the same amount. (example: (42+80) so you add the 4 and the 8 the 8 goes to 10 the 4 goes to 2 so the answer is 12 then you say 2+0=2 total answer is: 122). Then we reviewed Adjectives with FLL. 2nd Break Time. We continued to work on Lesson 76. We moved onto the activities. Which was can you do 42+23 as 42+20+3. W needs some more work but is getting it. We both got confused with the harder ones like 36+36.
E started with Math worksheet. He did 4 more equations and has 4 left. I needed to remind him how to start the problem but after that he was good to go. He did use manipulatives (abacus and fingers). E needs to double check his counting as he sometimes is 1 off. We talked about the different methods to find numbers. Next up was reading. Required reading 2pgs. He read 3pgs (p. 97-99) to finish it up. 1st Break Time. After Break time we did HWT p.8-9. We did not finish p.9 which was the mystery game. Next up we reviewed adjectives from FLL. 2nd Break Time. Last up was Math lesson 76. We moved onto the activities. Which
was can you do 42+23 as 42+20+3. E seemed to get that concept pretty well (he could recognize that both would equal the same answer) however he could not necessarily break up the first into the second one. Will continue to work on. Since W and I did not like the harder question I did not do them with E.
September 18, 2015. Husband stayed home from work because he was not feeling well so the only school done today was E finished up the math worksheet.
